Ubiquiti has started to rollout a new feature for UniFi devices, Zero-Touch Provisioning (ZTP) and it allows pretty seamless adoption of devices, even without plugging the device in.

What devices support ZTP?

Only one device supports ZTP so far and Ubiquiti says more are coming soon.

  • UniFi U7 Pro Max

You also need to be running UniFi Network version 8.2.71 or newer.

How to adopt the device with ZTP?

To get started, open up your U7 Pro Max and you’ll notice on the back is a new QR code and 9-digit code. You can either scan this with a smartphone or visit unifi.ui.com/inventory and enter in this code. It is worth mentioning that Ubiquiti says this code can only be used once for the lifetime of the device, even if it is factory reset.

Once you have added the device, it can then be assigned to a site and ready to use once the AP is online. Also bear in mind that even though you select UDM and other local UniFi OS Consoles in the list, this still doesn’t allow any Layer 3 magic, this device when installed will need to be able to reach the inform URL for the controller, but it’ll work fine with HostiFi UniFi installations.
