When migrating UISP instances, certain devices might throw up an error message that UISP is not reachable. Because these devices might not easily accessible remotely, the easiest way to migrate them is to use the command line.

If you want fast and reliable UISP hosting, check out HostiFi with fast support, regular backups, managed updates and prices from just $9 per month.

To learn more about our hosting plans, create an account and get started today.

For most connectivity issues, these can be resolved by checking the list in our dedicated guide, however for this specific issue, see the steps below.

NOTE: These steps are for airMAX and GigaBeam devices only

In our testing at HostiFi, this issue only seems to be an issue on GigaBeam devices when trying to migrate from the UISP Official Hosting to HostiFi or any other UISP hosting service.

How to fix "UISP is not reachable from connected device"

This is how the error message is displayed

To fix this, go to the device panel within UISP that has the error.

Next, click on Open Terminal and log in with the username and password. If you don't have them, use the UISP Vault to make a new password first.

Then, type in vi /tmp/system.cfg

Use the arrow keys to scroll down to the bottom, then look for unms.uri=

If there is a current entry there, remove it first. If it won't let you edit the text, type in random characters until it starts to edit and then delete the text, including wss://

Paste in the new UISP key from your new UISP server or the one you a migrating to.

Then click esc to leave the edit mode

Type :x to save the changes

To commit the changes to memory, type or paste in /usr/etc/rc.d/rc.softrestart save

Following this, the GigaBeam or other airMAX device pop up for adoption within UISP. If the server is a new one that you are migrating to, you might see a red triangle warning.

Wait 2-5 seconds for a pop-up that says Ready to Adopt and click Adopt

Within 5-10 seconds, the device will pop up online within UISP.
