Background

All UniFi devices

For example, all other UniFi APs and switches use the default credentials of 'ubnt' for the username and 'ubnt' for the password. Once the device is adopted into the UniFi Controller, the username and password get changed to the shared device credentials stored in the UniFi Network Application.

UXG Pro

For the UXG Pro, the username is 'root' by default and then once device is adopted into the UniFi Controller, the username and password get changed to the shared device credentials stored in the UniFi Network Application.

Logging into the UXG Pro via SSH for the first time

macOS

On macOS, open up the Terminal application

Type in ssh root@192.168.1.1 then hit return, if your device happens to be on a different IP address, use the below format.

ssh <username>@<ip-address>

Next, click the return key and the UXG Pro will ask for a password. The password is 'ubnt'

Username: root
Password: ubnt

Once logged in you'll be greeted with the welcome message. From there you can upgrade the firmware via SSH or adopt it a HostiFi controller.

Windows

Open up PuTTY, as Windows does not have a built in SSH client.

See this guide on how to install PuTTY on Windows

Type in 192.168.1.1 or the IP address for your UXG Pro

Next click 'Open'

After that, PuTTY will display a security message about the rsa2 fingerprint. On this window, press Accept to allow the connection

Next the UXG Pro will ask for a username, which is 'root'

Username: root
Password: ubnt

The UXG Pro will then ask for a password, which is 'ubnt'

Once logged in you'll be greeted with the welcome message. From there you can upgrade the firmware via SSH or adopt it a HostiFi controller.

Logging into the UXG Pro via SSH once it has been adopted

The process for logging into the UXG Pro once it has been adopted it very similar, the username and password are now determined by the UniFi Controller. Everything else mentioned above is the same.

Finding the username and password in UniFi

Once a device is adopted into the UniFi Controller, they take on the set SSH credentials from the controller. These can be easily found in both the legacy and new user interfaces.

Legacy User Interface

First, log into your UniFi Controller and go to the 'Settings' section

At the bottom of this page is the 'Device Authentication' section, where the SSH credentials can be found. Use these to log into your UXG Pro using the guide above.

New User Interface

First, log into your UniFi Controller and go to the 'Settings' section

Under settings, go to the 'System' tab

Scroll down to find a section called 'Network Device SSH Authentication', where the SSH credentials can be found. Use these to log into your UXG Pro using the guide above.

HostiFi

HostiFi provides hosting for Ubiquiti hardware and software, with servers for UniFi and UISP as well as professional network services with HostiFi Pro.
