Learn how to setup the new UXG Pro for the first time, then get it adopted to HostiFi or any other cloud hosted UniFi Network Controller.

First Time Setup

First, open your UXG Pro box and plug it in.

Next, you will see the following message for around 10 seconds.

By default, the UXG Pro will ask for DHCP on WAN 1 / Port 1. If possible, plug in a DHCP WAN connection. The UXG Pro also supports PPPoE and static IP addresses on the WAN port. You can access these settings by clicking on "advanced setup" after you login for the first time.

After around a minute or so, the UXG Pro will pick up an internet connection

Once completed, the UXG Pro will ask to be adopted.

Logging into the UXG Pro

To get our UXG Pro adopted, we need to log into its local web management portal. Best way to do this is to plug a laptop into port 2, one of the LAN ports.

Next, go to 192.168.1.1 in a web browser and follow the next steps. In this screen, we can go to the advanced setup, which will let us set the DHCP pool and configure the WAN settings.

Tick 'Agree to the Terms of Service' etc.

Then, click 'Next'.

In the next screen, click Skip.

You'll have the option to sign into your UI credentials. For this example, we will be skipping this option as we need to give the UXG Pro a fully qualified domain name to point to, such as your HostiFi hostname or custom domain name.

In the next screen, the UXG Pro will ask for the following:

  • IP Address or fully qualified domain name

  • Port

  • Username

  • Password

  • 2FA

In these sections, enter the following information:

  • The IP or FQDN for your UniFi Controller. This can be found from the HostiFi portal at app.hostifi.com.

  • Be sure to use 8443 for the port. Typically, we use 8080 but for the UXG Pro, we need to use a different port.

  • Username and Password for the admin user on your UniFi Controller

  • 2FA code, if applicable

Once those fields have been entered, click 'Next'

The UXG Pro will show a loading bar as it reaches out to your UniFi Controller

Checking the UniFi Controller

Log into your HostiFi or any other cloud hosted UniFi Controller, and you should now see the UXG Pro in the 'Getting Ready' state. Note, we didn't even need to press adopt.

After a few minutes, the UXG Pro is now online in our HostiFi or any other cloud hosted UniFi Controller.

For any next steps, we would recommend updating the software on the UXG Pro.

HostiFi
